Wayland was discovered and colonized during the second wave of expansion of the Galactic Republic. During the Mandalorian Wars, the planet served as a field hospital. The Losan Industries factory was also located here. A computer error led to the fact that information about the planet was removed from all navigational charts and catalogs of planets, because of which later many doubted, whether Wayland was the planet's original name or a codename coined by the Galactic Empire. The human colonists quickly found themselves in conflict with the local population, crystal-skinned Myneyrsh and lumpy Psadans. In the early years, the humans gained the upper hand over the Myneyrsh and Psadans thanks to Republican technology, but, isolated from the rest of the galaxy, they soon degraded to the level of local races.
Centuries later, Wayland was rediscovered by Palpatine, who decided that the planet's isolation and absence from maps made it an ideal place to store mysterious artifacts and secret technologies. Palpatine built a treasure chest on Mount Tantiss in Wayland's northern hemisphere, and left it to guard the Dark Jedi. It has been speculated that it could have been Joruus C'baoth, the insane clone of Jedi Master Jorus C'baoth. C'baoth remembered the power duel with the guardian of the treasure, as did the people of Wayland. Whether it actually happened or was a Force-induced massive hallucination created by C'baoth is unknown.
